Expansion of Our Testing Portfolio: Material Compatibility Testing in Explosive Gases

At our test center in Ilsfeld, we have reached another important milestone: We now have all the technical capabilities needed to conduct material compatibility tests in explosive gases. These include, among others, propane, isobutane, hydrogen, and even ammonia.

A key step in this portfolio expansion was the delivery in December 2025 of a specially designed outdoor container, which provides the infrastructural foundation for safe, reproducible, and standards-compliant testing under demanding conditions. This allows us to respond specifically to the growing demands of our customers, particularly in the energy, chemical, mobility, and hydrogen technology sectors.

But that’s not all: We are currently preparing to conduct standard-compliant testing of hydrogen gas permeability. These tests are a key component in reliably evaluating the material and process safety of future applications. Sound testing technology is essential, particularly when working with hydrogen, which poses special challenges for materials due to its small molecular size.

With this expansion, we are strengthening our expertise across the entire value chain—from material selection to safe field application.
