During a tensile test standardised specimens (in most cases special tensile test specimens) but also finished parts (e.g. O-rings) are clamped in a tensile test machine and are stretched with a steady feed rate until they tear. During this process the progression of the required strength and elongation is registered and a tensile elongation diagram is compiled thereof. <\/p>\n\n

Important parameters are tear strength and elongation at break. A tensile test is also a helpful instrument to make comparative statements about materials which are not prestressed, fresh from production or aged. <\/p>\n\n
